A visual element has no other meaning than itself and therefore the painting has no other meaning than itself” (van Doesburg) Jan Hendriks works with simple shapes and materials in simple rhythmic compositions. Everything that is unnecessary can be removed. Simple also means: absence of color. He works in minimal visual language: a repetition of the same element, sometimes with small shifts or twists. There are no main or side issues, no accents. The handwriting that emerges during the process is simply there and may be. The result is a strong image of emptiness and stillness, of peace, in a meditative atmosphere. Jan Hendriks was born in Tilburg in 1946. He lives and works in Landsmeer (NH)
