Roger Raveel

Still just a hand.

Roger Raveel - Still just a hand.

Original ink drawing on paper by Roger Raveel (15 July 1921 - 30 January 2013), signed 'RR'. The drawing dates from 1956. In 'Roger Raveel - Drawings' (Ludion, 2013) the period from 1955 to 1960 is discussed in detail (p. 85-135). It is the period in which the artist is searching. In a previous period his works were still recognizable. It was an attempt by Raveel to copy reality. Partly under the influence of the Cobra movement of artist friends Appel and Corneille, this urge for recognisability gradually begins to disappear from the mid-1950s. The works become more abstract. The artist makes more use of hatching. The title of the work 'Just a hand' perfectly reflects this zeitgeist. The work is glued on Japanese paper and is delivered in a passe-partout. Such original drawings in excellent condition are very rare. A certificate of authenticity can be provided on request.
