Steven Mahieu (Ostend, 19 February 1981) is a Flemish stand-up comedian.
Mahieu followed electromechanics at the VTI in Bruges and then studied social work at the Artevelde University College Ghent. After his studies he went to live in the Brugse Poort. He worked as a social worker and briefly for Graffiti Youth Service, but from 2010 he decided to focus full-time on comedy.
As a student, he attended an improv theater workshop and took the stage for the first time after a course with Nigel Williams. In April 2008, he finished third in the 123 Comedy Award. In 2009 he won the audience and jury prize at the Gaga Cup. In 2011, he appeared in Comedy Casino[1] and Comedy for life and won the audience and jury award on Humorologie.
In 2011, he premiered his first show 'Mahieustueus', directed by Han Coucke. This show was well received by the press, who welcomed Steven Mahieu as a promising newcomer to Flemish Comedy. In 2014 Mahieu presented his second hall show: 'Maniak', again directed by Han Coucke. For this, fellow comedian Lukas Lelie provided the support act. For this show Steven received four stars from De Standaard, De Morgen and De Redactie. In 2017 he presented his third hall show: 'Zonder Filter', with Karel Ghyoot as support act and directed by theater maker Arne Sierens. This show was described by VRT NWS as the best he has made in ten years, and again received four stars in De Standaard.
In 2019 he premiered his fourth hall show 'Full Contact tour', with Hans Cools as support act. This show was also received with four stars by De Standaard.
Steven Mahieu's comedy is characterized by his distinctly energetic and fierce style. He prefers philosophical themes, which he studies in a humorous and philosophical way. His comedy is often about life, death and love.
