Indian ink on paper, signed and dated lower left in ink. Fine original early work, produced by the painter at the age of 31, delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Size with frame : 42 x 32 cm, approximately. Size of the work: 25.5 x 19.5 cm. The 'spectacle of nature', made up of geological bubbling, is a recurring theme in Guillaume Corneille's work. In his so-called "germinating abstraction" (the term was coined by the art critic Charles Estienne), the figures gradually emerge and reveal themselves, like a sprouting plant. Guillaume Corneille's art is always narrative. Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010) was born in Liège of Dutch parents and was a member of the Cobra group along with Constant, Dotremont, Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, Noiret, Doucet and Alechinsky.
