Guillaume Corneille - Intertwining of flowers, Cobra work, 1951Guillaume Corneille - Intertwining of flowers, Cobra work, 1951Guillaume Corneille - Intertwining of flowers, Cobra work, 1951

Watercolor and India ink on paper, signed and dated lower right in graphite. Nice original work, realized by the painter at the age of 29, delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Size with frame : 30 x 32 cm, approximately. Size of the work : 18 x 20 cm. A recurrent theme of Guillaume Corneille is the 'spectacle of nature', a title he attributed to several of his works. As in a round of the sun, the flowers intertwine, in a crossing of the vegetable and the mineral, tiny and extraordinary spectacle, of which Van Gogh was the spokesman by his turning stars. In his abstraction called "in germination" (the term is from the art critic Charles Estienne), like a plant that germinates, the figures emerge and reveal themselves gradually. Guillaume Corneille's art is always a narrative art. Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010) was born in Liege of Dutch parents and was one of the members of the Cobra group with Constant, Dotremont, Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, Noiret, Doucet, and Alechinsky.
