Large oil pastel on paper. Dimensions: 59 x 42 cm. To frame Signed and dated lower left by the artist.1990 Around 1990, Henri Matchavariani made a whole series of fashion drawings with clothes inspired by Thierry Mugler. Henri Matchavariani (born 1939) is a French painter, calligrapher and illustrator of Georgian and Romanian descent. He was an art director in Paris and Milan. He created numerous illustrations for the press (Vogue) and advertising campaigns, notably for Air France. He worked closely with Helmut Newton on a project for Cacharel. His art is guided by the elegance of line and by an imaginative flight gesture, inspired by the East. His calligraphy corresponds to that of Christian Dotremont. An exhibition "Henri Matchavariani and Christian Dotremont" is planned soon. "Just a few strokes, by thrift, by strict necessity for the sign. Just a few strokes like a vibration of pastel or ink in the silence of my white sheets. Just a few strokes, and no more than that". Henri Matchavariani Henri Matchavariani is also a personality of French cinema: he has realised numerous dubbings, and appears regularly in second roles, notably in films by Philippe Claudel, Roman Polanski, etc. He is currently handing Michael Douglas the title role of the Apple TV series : Benjamin Franklin.
