Suzanne Vega is releasing her new album 'An evening of New York Songs and Stories (Cooking Vinyl)' on the world. On the occasion of this album she is going on a European tour. On June 19 she presented this new album live in the Minard Theater in Ghent.
"An Evening of New York Songs and Stories" features previously released songs inspired by New York, this time in a live performance. Vega is assisted by her faithful guitarist Gerry Leonard, bassist Jeff Allen and keyboardist Jamie Edwards. The album was recorded earlier this year at the famous New York bar Café Carlyle. In addition to hits such as 'Luka' and 'Tom's Diner', lesser-known gems are also featured, such as 'Frank and Ava' and 'Ludlow Street'. 'New York is my Destination' is also brought up from her repertoire. An Evening of New York Songs and Stories is produced by Gerry Leonard with the mix performed by sound engineer and Grammy Award winner Kevin Killen and mastered by Grammy Award winner Bob Ludwig.
Suzanne Vega is widely acclaimed as one of the best songwriters of her generation. She is a figurehead of the folk revival of the early 80s. After the release of her warmly acclaimed debut album, released in 1985 with her name as its title, she continued to write and record contemporary songs that are now familiar to us. 'Luka' is arguably the only hit ever written from the perspective of an abused boy, while 'Marlene on the Wall' scored remarkably well in the UK. 'Tom's Diner' is a peculiar a cappella song and became a huge success in nightclubs as a remix by British dance duo DNA. Vega's albums, including 'Suzanne Vega', 'Solitude Standing' and '99.9F', have sold millions of copies.
