Barry Moore better known by his stage name Luka Bloom (born 23 May 1955) is an Irish singer-songwriter. The name 'Luka' comes from the hit song by Suzanne Vega from 1987. 'Bloom' is the last name of the main character from the book Ulysses by James Joyce.
Bloom released three albums under his own name Barry Moore in the late 1970s and early 1980s, in which he managed to create a distinctive sound through a certain plucking technique. During this period he lived in Groningen for a while, during which time he released his second album, In Groningen.
Bloom was diagnosed with tendonitis in 1979. As a result, he could no longer perform his plucking technique properly and he switched to a different way of playing. This has led to the unique 'Luka sound', which characterizes Bloom's greatest hits.
His brother Christy Moore (1945) is 10 years older and is also a well-known singer-songwriter.
