Walter Swennen (1946) is active as a poet and painter. In his work, the interaction between word and image comes to the fore several times. Swennen is a pioneer of the so-called 'new painting' from the 1980s. His painted images give the impression of being a precise pictorial treatment of ideas that could also have been worked out in a text. Walter Swennen's work can be seen in the S.M.A.K., and in his gallery Xavier Hufkens.
