Panamarenko started his career in the 1960s as a pacesetter for various happenings, playful street performances that he orchestrated in the center of Antwerp.
Happenings are not limited to one art discipline. They take place in small spaces, outdoors and sometimes even in several places at once. The starting point of the happening is not so much art, but life itself. Because human action is central and coincidence plays a major role, the result is usually not fixed in advance
