Constantia, 1948. Drawing illustrating the poem by the Dutch poet Han G. Hoekstra
Beautiful original old work, painted by the painter at the age of 26, supplied with certificate of authenticity. Dimensions with frame: 48 x 37 cm, approx. Dimensions of the work : 36,5 x 26 cm. Atelier Corneille stamp on the reverse. Elegant signature in ink in the drawing : Corneille 48 Watercolour and India ink on paper. Constantia is the name of a peasant woman, tired of picking fruit, sunk in dreams, a bag of red apples spread around her. The poem was considered one of Han G. Hoekstra's best by Binnendijk in 1940. Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010) was born in Liège of Dutch parents and was a member of the Cobra group along with Constant, Dotremont, Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, Noiret, Doucet and Alechinsky.
