The unique exhibition presents 24 wall drawings in color by the American conceptual artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007). LeWitt's wall drawings formed a crucial step in the history of contemporary (drawing) art from the late 1960s onwards. Using instructions and diagrams, the monumental works are applied directly to the walls of the museum. Between 1968 and 2007, Sol LeWitt made more than 1200 wall drawings. LeWitt was the son of Russian Jewish immigrants. He studied art at Syracuse University and made an art trip through Europe in 1949 to get to know the old masters. In 1953 he moved to New York, where he worked for a while as a night watchman at the Museum of Modern Art. He would have a major exhibition of his visual work there 25 years later. He spent a year as a graphic artist in the office of the architect I.M. Pei where he learned to work in three dimensions. His first exhibition took place in 1965 at the John Daniels Gallery in New York. LeWitt, known as a modest artist of great fame, let the work speak for itself and avoided the media.
