Henri Matchavariani (b. 1939) is a French painter, calligrapher and illustrator of Georgian and Romanian descent. He has worked as an art director in Paris and Milan. He has produced numerous illustrations for the press (Vogue) and posters, notably for Air France. He worked closely with Helmut Newton on an advertising project. His art is guided by elegant lines and imaginative, oriental-inspired flying gestures. His calligraphy follows in the footsteps of Christian Dotremont. An exhibition entitled "Henri Matchavariani et Christian Dotremont" is planned for the near future.
