Sanguine on paper, signed and dated lower right, referenced and reproduced in the book 'Corneille, an early bird (1943-1948)' Galerie den Bieman de Haas, 1997, ill. 27. Beautiful original early work, made by the painter at the age of 21, delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Size with frame: 39 x 31 cm, approx. Size of the work: 27,8 x 19,7 cm. (We only sell the work with its certificate here) In Amsterdam, Guillaume Corneille browsed the rooms of the Rijksmuseum and trained his eye on the great names in painting. The female figures are often dreamy, immobilised in a suspended time, close to Cézanne's nudes. Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010) was born in Liège of Dutch parents and was a member of the Cobra group along with Constant, Dotremont, Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, Noiret, Doucet and Alechinsky.
